Philippines Eyes Coin Line Record

MANILA, Philippines -- The Central Bank of the Philippines said it wants to create a 43 1/2-mile line of coins to set a Guinness World Record.

The banks' Officers Club and Employees Association said the line of 25-centavo coins will be assembled Nov. 30 in the open space near the Manila Grandstand in the capital's Rival Park and they are hoping to place at least 3.4 million coins across 43 1/2 miles to break the record of 40 miles currently held by the United States, GMA News reported Monday.

Greg Suarez II, president of the Officer's Club, said the line will be assembled by a team of about 1,000 volunteers and could reach 62 miles. He said the coins will later be donated toward efforts to build more classrooms for the country's public schools.
