Dutch Install a Slide to Get to Subway

A metal one. Because it's not really a challenge unless you're risking second degree burns on your way to work.

Tortoise Amputee Has Leg Replaced With Wheel

The tortoise, Gamera, is moving around just fine thanks to what looks to be a basic wheel you could buy at any Home Hardware. It does look like someone just glued it to his body though. That's not how they do animal surgery...is it?

Cat Lady With 700 Cats Claims She’s Not Crazy

Lynea Lattanzio is the subject of an upcoming National Geographic special called The Lady With 700 Cats. She runs the largest no-cage, no-kill cat refuge in the state of California, complete with a nursery, intensive care unit, and even a retirement home for her elderly feline friends.

Jane Lynch serves as the special's narrator, which gives the special a parody-like feel. But rest assured, it is no joke: this lady most definitely has 700 freaking cats. Just to be clear: This is not an episode of Hoarders.

A New Way to Get the Toothpaste Out of the Tube

TORONTO STAR -- Whether you squeeze the toothpaste tube from the top, bottom or middle may not be grounds for divorce, but an award-winning student design might at least cut the simmering rage.

SavePaste, created by Sang Min Yu and Wong Sang Lee, modifies a Tetra-Pak-style carton into a wedge that promises to “eliminate the hard-to-squeeze dead space.” A finalist in the Industrial Design Society of America student competition, SavePaste also eliminates the highly contentious toothpaste-tube cap, source of many a blog rant about inconsiderate spouses.

“We saw two problems in the toothpaste packaging,” Sang Min told the Star from London, where she is a design student at Central Saint Martins College of Art.

“It is very hard to squeeze out the last remains of toothpaste from the head of the tube. Users are forced into the clumsy task of pushing out the last bits with extra force, which often leaves their fingers hurt.”

Even worse, she said, many conventional toothpaste tubes come in an extra packaging box. Whether the world will seize on SavePaste to replace a design launched in 1892 remains to be seen. Oil-paint tubes seen in Paris by the son of New London, Conn., dentist Dr. Washington Sheffield were the inspiration.

Colgate, the first to put toothpaste in a tube commercially in 1896, wasn’t game enough to comment. Neither was The Tube Council, a non-profit North American group to celebrate and promote the collapsible tube as packaging, based in Quebec. The council’s Tube of the Year winner for 2010 was a neckless design by Montebello Packaging of Hawkesbury, Ont.

“Suggesting a different paradigm in such products is often dangerous,” admitted Sang Min. “We will try to knock on doors.”

We can all prepare for the cold in 5 months, can't we?

Video: Pizza Hut Dance Off

Definitely not something you see in a Pizza Hut everyday!

In a recent case of life imitating art, employees at a Pizza Hut in Agra, India, broke out into dance, turning the wait-for-your-pizza experience into a scene from a Bollywood film.

The video's uploader called the customer-pleasing choreographed moment "a normal day" at that pizza place.

The song is "Kala Chasma."

Edmonton Man Travels the World with Cola in Hand

YAHOO! -- Many people talk about dropping everything and traveling the world, but few actually make the trip. Duane Perera did just that, and has the Coke cans to prove it.

Spurred by a failed relationship and his 30th birthday looming, Edmonton's Perera took off to see the world. He filmed his journey and shared it with fans on YouTube, each video featuring him drinking Coca-Cola in the exotic locations he visited. He chose to feature Coca-Cola prominently in the videos because of how readily available it is worldwide.

Perera posted videos online throughout his trip, keeping viewers in the loop with his year-long sojourn and received lots of positive response to his adventure diaries. His trip ended with a final video showing him in 48 different cities across 36 countries, posing with a Coke in hand each time. He has received nearly 400,000 views on his YouTube channel, ResetGrowLive, so far. A trip that takes you to Oktoberfest in Germany, La Tomatina in Spain and up Mount Kilimanjaro doesn't come cheap. Perera managed to rack up $27,000 in credit card debt over the course of his travels.

But he remains optimistic he won't have to foot that bill alone. He says he's hopeful Coca-Cola will want to turn his footage into a commercial. There have been early talks with executives in the U.S., but nothing yet set in stone. Until then, Perera will return to his life in Edmonton where he is a music producer (the music in his final video was created by his company). Perera says he hopes others will be inspired by his adventure and will take risks of their own.

Perera encourages his viewers to share their own travel dreams on Twitter with the hashtag #CokeAroundTheWorld.

Here's a five-minute look at what Perera's journey was like:

Woman Rampages McDonald’s Over Melted Ice Cream Cake

The manager of a McDonald's in Indiana called 911 after a customer went into a violent rage over an ice cream birthday cake she'd left with them for safe-keeping, which had later been handed back to her in a less-than-frozen state. She threw the cake at one employee and then slapped them in the face. You can hear the whole, harrowing 911 call here. No arrests have yet been made.

In related news, ice cream cake is still delicious regardless of consistency, and working at McDonald's sucks. [WFIE, image via Shutterstock]
