Elderly Woman Leads Cops On A Very Slow Car Chase

Earlier this week, a 76-year-old British woman led police on the opposite of wild car chase. In a scene that must have looked like it was playing out in slow motion, Caroline Turner, steered herself into trouble when she began driving down the wrong side of the road-into oncoming traffic! Danger! Police followed her, flashing their lights and everything, but Turner didn't seem to notice. She continued driving at between 10 and 20 miles per hour for 27 miles! Can you even imagine? Hilariously, one of the policemen eventually decided to run up alongside her car to talk to her. He knocked on the window and instructed her to pull over. At first, she refused, saying, "There's nothing to discuss. I'm going home." But the tough old gal was eventually persuaded to stop driving.

It might have looked funny, but the consequences were serious. She spent the night in jail because police were afraid of the damage she might cause if she was allowed to drive home. In the end, she was also fined and had her license revoked for one year. Ms. Turner, who is an artist and grandmother of six, was widowed just five weeks ago; so she certainly has an excuse for being a bit off her game. Poor woman! She admits she drove the wrong way, "[M]y driving was not up to its usual high standards." However, she's not letting this get her down, "I am planning for my re-test already. But for the next year I am going to be catching buses." Let's hope that next time she hits the road in her jazzy Ford Fiesta, she'll be a bit more careful.

Apple Store Looted During Steve Jobs Tribute

Where some see loss, others see opportunity. That would at least appear to be the case at the Apple store in Little Rock, Arkansas where two mourners who had come to pay tribute to Steve Jobs noticed something unusual: that the store was being robbed.

Robert Blake and girlfriend Amy Parker were laying flowers down at a memorial when they spotted "a man running away from the store." At first Blake assumed he was just a mourner in a hurry. But then the man jumped into a getaway car with another man, and drove off.

What at first seemed to be scattered flowers turned out to be broken glass, Parker said. She used her iPhone to call 911. Turns out, the thieves made off with "two dozen iPhones, plus iPads and laptops." No arrests have been made.

Play With a Cat Over the Internet

Cats and the internet: They go together like peanut butter and jelly. But until now, we could only enjoy online cats in the most passive of ways. No more! Thanks to the iPet Companion, you can control robotic cat toys at humane shelters around the country with the click of a computerized mouse! You can even move the camera around. It's really fun!

Until you remember that these cute little kitties are trapped in some lonely humane shelter, with no real human contact. Just robot cat toys, and someone like you, unseen and far away, who'll probably get bored of them in a few minutes and move on to the next link you see on Facebook.

Oh, but whatever. Go play with the kitties.

Man Assaults Ex-Wife Because She Didn’t Click ‘Like’ on His Status Update

Facebook user Benito Apolinar, who hails from the great state of Texas, had posted a loving status update to his Facebook page on the anniversary of his mother's death. Then he waited for the "likes" to roll in. You know how that is: One finds a strange sense of fulfillment in near-meaningless clicks of approval from friends and acquaintances and friends of acquaintances.

Well, the "like" from Dolores Apolinar, Benito's estranged wife, never came. That led to a confrontation. ("Your passive-aggressive withholding of a Facebook 'like' is the social media equivalent of spitting on my dear mother's grave, you heinous and unfeeling witch!" he did not say, but could have.)

Whatever words were exchanged, it quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Benito "hit" Dolores and "pulled her hair," according to the criminal complaint. Now he's facing battery charges.

Well, Mark Zuckerberg did say his mission with Facebook was to "make the world more connected."

Beyonce Delivers Pregnant Fierceness in ‘Countdown’

If you thought Beyonce's pregnancy would slow her down, think again. Here's the new music video for her latest single, "Countdown." It's possible the video was recorded before she showed off her baby bump at the VMAs in late August. Either way, you'll have a hard time not enjoying the eye-popping visuals and booty-shaking dance moves.

Nobel Peace Prize Goes to Three Women

Liberian peace activist Leyma Gbowee, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Yemeni democracy activist Tawakkul Karman somehow beat human and animal rights advocate/Egyptian revolutionary Mark Zuckerberg in winning the Nobel Peace Prize. What could these women possibly have done to outshine the man who has perhaps done more to liberate private information than anyone else?

Well:

  • Karman leads Women Journalists Without Chains, a human rights group, and has organized protests against the president
  • Sirleaf, aka "Iron Lady," has used her position to promote peace and women's equality
  • Gbowee has also advocated for women and campaigned against rape

Yeah, but how much money have they made for investors? Money is peace.

The three winners will split the $1.5 million three ways, but spend it together during an all-day "girls' day out" shopping excursion on either Rodeo Drive or their local outlet mall—whichever they feel like doing more.
