Teen Girls Sunbathing On Pennsylvania Road Struck By Car

Two teenage girls who were sunbathing in the middle of a rural road in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, were hit by a car after falling asleep.

Samantha Schermanhorn and Kaylie George, both 13 years old, were conscious following the accident, and reportedly told Samantha's cousins Nicole and Nicholas Beck they had been suntanning in the street when they fell asleep.

The car's driver, who also happens to be Samantha's cousin, was questioned by police, but the incident has been ruled a "tragic accident."

The two girls were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were listed in fair condition as of last night.

104-Year-Old Sets Paragliding Record

Seeking to reclaim the world record for oldest paraglider, a 104-year-old British woman successfully jumped off a 2,400ft Cypriot cliff two weeks ago.

Earlier this year, Peggy McAlpine's title, which she earned five years ago, was taken from her by 101-year-old Utahn Mary Allen Hardison. McAlpine, refusing to allow her legacy to be unceremoniously usurped, arranged a repeat of her previous tandem paragliding adventure.

Speaking with the Sunday Express, she recalled falling in love with extreme sports at the tender age of 80, when, at the Essex Show, she was persuaded by her grand kids to bungee jump.

"I climbed to the top and looked down and saw the people like ants and my heart sank," she said. "But I'd gone so far, I couldn't stop. So I stepped on the platform and drew up my courage and leaped from the top."

Since then, her family can barely keep McAlpine grounded. "She said after the first world record that she'd do it again in five years time," her 75-year-old daughter Elizabeth Forsyth told the paper. "If that American lady hadn't beaten her record maybe we could have kept her on the ground but that was not to be."

And to those pretenders who would dare deign to rob McAlpine of her rightful record she offers a preemptive warning: "I would certainly like to do it again - especially if anyone takes my record."

Bucket List Of A Baby Girl With A Terminal Illness

Little Avery Canahuati was born last November in Bellaire, Texas, near Houston, with a genetic disorder that will likely take her life within about 18 months.

Avery Canahuati has made astonishing progress on her bucket list: throw out a first pitch; get a driver’s license; get asked out for Valentine’s Day. She doesn’t have the leisure of time, however.

 Avery, just five months old, was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic terminal illness that means she is unlikely to make it past her second birthday. So Avery’s parents, Mike and Laura, are doing everything they can to make the most of the time Avery does have left, and they’re keeping track of their adventures on Avery’s Bucket List, written as if by Avery herself, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

Number one on Avery’s list is to meet Ellen Degeneres:

“I think Ellen is the perfect person to help me spread my message about SMA because she’s compassionate, funny, and wants to meet inspirational people, which apparently some people think I am.”

Avery currently is welcoming ideas to add to her bucket list.

'The Jungle Book' To Get Live Action Remake

Steve Kloves, the man who penned the entirety of the Harry Potter series for the big screen, is in talks to write, direct, and produce a live-action remake of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Disney’s 1994 live-action version, with Stephen Sommers directing and Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli, certainly leaves room for improvement — but really, Disney’s terrific animated version should be plenty Jungle Book for everyone. If the project goes forward, it will be Klove’s third film the helm, following The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flesh And Bone.

Pepsi To Bring Live Concerts To Their Twitter Followers

Pepsi is ramping up the cola-wars on social media with a move to stream live video from concerts to its followers on Twitter.

The new promotion will give followers of Pepsi’s Twitter account (@Pepsi) the chance to see live concerts streamed online this summer. The deal with Twitter is a part of it’s global advertising campaign and will also feature a television ad with singer Nicki Minaj.

Pepsi needs to refresh its marketing to win back fans from Coca-Cola. The Sacramento Bee notes that up to $600 million in additional marketing for Pepsi has been put aside for this year and that the loss of market share to Coca-Cola has brought about criticism from investors.

According to industry monitor Beverage Digest, in 2010, Pepsi was knocked from the Number 2 place by Diet Coke in the U.S., with Coca-Cola retaining the crown as the top selling fizzy drink.

The new campaign’s tagline is “Live For Now”, and the company has already skinned their Twitter brand page to reflect the slogan.

Airlines To Fly Hello Kitty-Themed Jets On Two New Routes

Taiwan's EVA Air has transformed three Airbus A330-300 aircrafts, creating Hello Kitty-themed jets for two new flight routes in hopes of boosting the country's struggling tourism industry, according to Metro News. Giant pictures of the Japanese kitten have been painted on the exterior of the planes, which should enter service in May. In a statement, the airline said:

"EVA is also hard at work with Sanrio to give two Airbus 330-200s colourful Hello Kitty Jet makeovers, which will give the airline five of the cheerfully painted second-generation aircrafts and enable more passengers to enjoy Hello Kitty flights,"

Charles And Camilla To Visit Canada In May

Charles and Camilla are to visit Canada from the 20th to 23rd May on an official Royal visit taking in the provinces of New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

The visit is timed to coincide with Victoria Day (the celebration of The Queen’s official birthday in Canada) and the program will highlight Canadians’ service to their communities.

On Victoria Day itself, 21st May, Their Royal Highnesses will be welcomed to Canada in a military ceremony at the Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, New Brunswick where His Royal Highness served in the 1970s. They will also attend a public festival in Saint John New Brunswick to celebrate The Queen’s official birthday in Canada before flying to Toronto, Ontario for a traditional Victoria Day fireworks celebration over Lake Ontario.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall last visited Canada in November 2009. The Prince has visited Canada on 15 previous occasions. This is Camilla’s second visit to Canada.

Dentist Yanks Out All Of Ex-Boyfriend’s Teeth

Hell hath no fury... like a female dentist scorned?

Anna Mackowiak, a 34-year-old dentist from the Polish city of Wrocław is under investigation for malpractice after she allegedly pulled out all of her ex-boyfriend's teeth when he showed up to ask for help with a tooth ache.

According to reports, 45-year-old Marek Olszewski arrived at Mackowiak's practice days after the pair split. "I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions," Mackowiak is quoted as saying. "But when I saw him lying there I just thought, 'What a bastard' and decided to take all his teeth out."

When he awoke with his mouth bandaged shut, Olszewski "knew something was wrong." For one, he says, he could no longer feel his teeth.

Mackowiak assured him all was well, and that his mouth was merely numb. "But when I got home I looked in the mirror and couldn't f-ing believe it," Olszewski said. "The b*tch had emptied my mouth."

Adding insult to literal injury, the cab driver's new girlfriend ditched him soon after, "saying she can't be with a man without teeth."

In addition to losing her medical license, Mackowiak also faces criminal charges which could land her up to three years in jail.

Titanic Replica To Be Built By Australian Billionaire

Well, there's no possible that this could go wrong, right?

An Australian billionaire wants the legend of the Titanic to live on, so instead of raising it, he intends to build an exact replica of the ill-fated cruise-liner and will call it the Titanic II — setting sail in just over four years time.

You honestly couldn’t make it up.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Queensland billionaire Clive Palmer has commissioned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to construct the ship in time for its maiden voyage between England and North America, which is scheduled for late 2016.

The announcement came on the same day that he revealed he would be running for federal election in Queensland — quite an incentive for votes, don’t you think?

Fate will also be tempted by the route of the maiden voyage, which will see it head from London to New York, although at least there won’t be any icebergs left in the lukewarm North Atlantic sea by 2016, so it’ll be a significantly safer trip this time around.

“Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it,” the Aussie entrepreneur said when questioned about the possibility for a disaster and subsequent box office smash movie move adaptation, but, you’ll be pleased to hear, Palmer then added “It is going to be designed so it won’t sink.”

Oh, and just for a kicker – Palmer says he's already got the Chinese Navy on board to escort the ship across the Atlantic in a display of naval power that's surely going to be taken well by Washington. Nope, no way this voyage can go wrong at all.
